Jose Altuve believed to have an oblique injury, according to Astros GM Dana Brown
Houston Astros All-Star Jose Altuve left Saturday’s win over the Texas Rangers early and is believed to have sustained an oblique injury, according to general manager Dana Brown.
Brown announced on a pregame radio broadcast Sunday that “early signs” point to Altuve having injured an oblique. Altuve was scheduled to undergo imaging on the injury Sunday. Brown did not offer information on the severity of the injury or a projected timeline for Altuve’s return.
“Let’s hope it’s not too bad,” Brown said, per the Houston Chronicle.
Altuve sustained the injury in the eighth inning Saturday as Houston held a 4-1 lead. He hit into a double play and immediately came up holding his left side.

He walked straight to the Astros’ clubhouse without attempting to run to first base and didn’t return to the game.
If the injury is to Altuve’s oblique, it will be his second oblique injury since 2023. Altuve spent 20 days on the injured list with a left oblique injury during the 2023 season.

Altuve is a nine-time All-Star, seven-time Silver Slugger and a former AL MVP. Through 42 games before his injury, Altuve was slashing .245/.326/.380 with 4 home runs, 12 RBI and 1 stolen base.
Altuve could join a crowded Astros injured list that already includes shortstop Jeremy Peña, outfielder Jake Meyers, starting pitcher Hunter Brown, closer Josh Hader and third baseman Carlos Correa, whose season is done due to a torn tendon in his left ankle.
The injuries have contributed to a rough early season in Houston in which the Astros are off to a 19-28 start as of Sunday.
