Tigers' woes continue with 8th straight loss off Orioles' walk-off 3-run homer
The Detroit Tigers continued to slip with a brutal 5-3 walk-off loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. The game was the first of a Sunday doubleheader in Baltimore.
In the bottom of the ninth, with Detroit holding a 3-2 lead, closer Kenley Jansen had a chance to get a major save. With two on in scoring position and two outs, Jansen was facing Colton Cowser at the plate, working ahead to an 0-2 count. But on the third pitch, a 95 mph sinker in the heart of the plate, Cowser sent it deep into center field to get a three-run homer and win the game, 5-3.

That ending was tough enough for veteran Detroit announcer Dan Dickerson to express his disbelief: “You’ve gotta be kidding me,” he said as the ball went into the stands.

That’s the eighth straight loss for the Tigers, who have won only four games in the month of May and lost 16 of their last 18. Detroit has already been swept three times in May, including by the New York Mets earlier this month and division rival Cleveland Guardians last week. And they’re in danger of it happening again as they re-take the field against Baltimore on Sunday.
After completing the series against Baltimore, Detroit will host the Los Angeles Angels, who sit at the bottom of the AL West. That battle of the basement will hopefully give the Tigers a chance to turn things around — or else slide even further.
