An arrest warrant has reportedly been issued for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in California’s Santa Clara County, per the California Post.

The warrant is for a “misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speed.” The charge stems from a video Aiyuk himself posted to his YouTube channel in December 2025, showing him speeding past Levi’s Stadium.

The video was taken from the wide receiver’s position in the driver’s seat and shows the speedometer. During the video, Aiyuk traveled more than 100 mph past the stadium. The wide receiver wanted to show off the Cadillac CT5 V Blackwing, and he did so by driving around Santa Clara.

When the video was released, the public reacted with a stark backlash over the lack of safety in it. The wide receiver apologized on social media for the video and said that any future car content wouldn’t feature any more speeding.

“Sorry yall. My car content won’t come with speeding anymore! Was Praying with my son tonight and wouldn’t want anybody else to miss out on an opportunity to do the same with their loved ones!

My apologies.”

According to the California Post, even after Aiyuk’s public apology for the incident, the Santa Clara Police Department still conducted an investigation into the video. The office chose to forward the case to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office on Jan. 15.

Nearly five months later, a warrant has been issued for Aiyuk on a misdemeanor speeding charge.

The Post reported that it tried to reach out to prosecutors and Aiyuk’s representation for comment, but neither side responded.

San Francisco and the wide receiver have been on the outs. Aiyuk tore his ACL and MCL in his right knee on October 20, 2024.

While he was projected to return at some point during the 2025 season, it never happened, and reports surfaced that the relationship between Aiyuk and the team had deteriorated as the receiver failed to participate in meeting and other team activities. Aiyuk was added to the reserve/left squad list in December.

General manager John Lynch told reporters in January that “I think it's safe to say he's played his last snap with the 49ers.”

The 49ers have been trying to find a trade partner for Aiyuk, but to no avail so far. He remains on the reserve/left squad list and has not yet been released by the franchise.

San Francisco selected Aiyuk with the 25th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He steadily improved his first two years in the league and then used a breakout 2022 and 2023 campaign to hold out for a massive contract extension in the 2024 offseason.

Aiyuk is two years into the four-year extension, but due to his absence, the 2026 guarantees in his deal have been voided as part of a settlement with the franchise, per Spotrac.

His best season was in 2023. The wide receiver played in 16 games and had 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns on 75 receptions.

Aiyuk is only 28 and should still have some production left in the tank if he can find his way to a new franchise.
