Scottie Scheffler has Memorial Tournament meltdown after ball winds up in water: 'I don't know what to do'

For even the most-seasoned amateurs, golf can be a frustrating game. Between keeping your swing mechanics consistent, judging a particular hole and accounting for weather conditions, there’s a lot that can go wrong on a single shot.

So, it’s nice to know that even the best of the best get it wrong occasionally.

Scottie Scheffler had a rare moment of frustration at the Memorial Tournament on Thursday. After hitting an errant ball into the water, Scheffler went on a tirade about the shot to his caddie Ted Scott.

After hitting the shot, which bounced on the rough before plunging into the water, Scheffler can be heard saying, “I don’t know to do.”

As he walked away from the tee, Scheffler said, “That was a good shot. Now I’m in the water.”

The camera shot eventually changed, and Scheffler’s words became clearer on the broadcast as he walked toward the ball.

“Absolutely flushed a seven iron, and we get the wind wrong, and I’m in the water,” he said. “I don’t think you understand how frustrating that is. That was a good shot. It really was.”

Scheffler also added in a “golly” before eventually telling Scott, “I don’t understand what I’m meant to do. I don’t understand. I really don’t.” He eventually ended his rant by saying, “I’m hitting good shots, and dropping from hazards. I cannot get the wind right.”

After winning the Memorial Tournament in each of the past two years, Scheffler got off to a rocky start Thursday, shooting one-over to open the event. He’ll hope to turn that around, and have a less frustrating day, Friday.
