Shohei Ohtani was on track to provide himself his own run support. Then Bryan Reynolds stepped in.

The Pittsburgh Pirates left fielder robbed the Los Angeles Dodgers star of a two-run homer in the top of the third inning on Wednesday, maintaining a scoreless tie. Per MLB, the ball was 101.7 mph off the bat and projected to travel 383 feet at PNC Park.

It would have been Ohtani's 12th homer of the season.

The robbery occurred during Ohtani's 11th start of the season as a pitcher, a run that has seen him jump to the top tier of NL Cy Young hopefuls. His 0.74 ERA entering Wednesday would have led MLB had he pitched six more innings to qualify.

Reynolds' catch also didn't keep the Dodgers off the board for long, as Max Muncy doubled in Freddie Freeman one inning later to make it 1-0 Los Angeles. Kyle Tucker followed with a single for another run, but the Pirates responded in the bottom of the inning Tyler Callihan solo shot to cut the deficit back to one run.
