Mike Trout reportedly headed to 10-day IL with hamstring strain that's interrupting Angels star's resurgent season

Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout is going on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring strain, according to MLB.com.

Trout told reporters Thursday that he injured his right hamstring while running to first base in the eighth inning of an 8-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

“From last night to to today, it's a night and day difference, so that's positive for me,” Trout said, per MLB.com. “I was a little worried last night but had a plane plane ride and just sitting down after playing, so that kind of came into effect.

“But feels way better today, so I'm not overly concerned about it, but I'm going to do everything I can, in that training room and the weight room to get back.”

His return-to-play timeline isn’t clear at the moment. The Angels have reportedly called up infielder Christian Moore, whom L.A. selected in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft. Moore’s been raking for Triple-A Salt Lake, where he’s also spent time in left field. While Moore hit .198 over 53 games with the Angels last season, he’s dazzled in Triple-A this season, posting 9 homers, 45 RBI and a 1.053 OPS across 51 games.

Trout has missed only one game so far this season. In 74 outings during the 2026 campaign, the 34-year-old center fielder and designated hitter has piled up 17 homers and 36 RBI while slashing .234/.394/.472. After missing out on the All-Star Game each of the past two years, Trout has appeared poised to make a return to the midsummer classic, which will be played in Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park, not too far from where he grew up in New Jersey.

Trout’s .866 OPS is his second best in the past four seasons. His .394 OBP is good for ninth in the majors this time around. Plus, his 54 runs scored are tied for the second most in the bigs right now, behind only Washington Nationals standout James Wood (68).

Although the 11-time All-Star and three-time AL MVP’s batting average is nowhere close to what it used to be, he’s been creating plenty offensively.

He had been on pace for his first 30-plus homer season since 2022. Back in April, he exploded for five home runs across a four-game series versus the New York Yankees in the Bronx. Along the way, he took part in the sixth back-to-back-to-back home-run sequence of his 16-season career.

Last season, to lessen his workload amid his injury-riddled 30s, Trout mostly DH’d. In 2026, he returned to his roots, once again lining up in center field. And, up until now, he’s showcased impressive durability this season.

Trout’s lone off day came on April 6, after he was hit by a pitch.

He’ll have more time off now as he works his way back from a hamstring setback that’s interrupting his resurgent campaign.
