Pistons reportedly trade C Isaiah Stewart to Grizzlies in exchange for multiple second-round draft picks
The Detroit Pistons have reportedly traded center Isaiah Stewart to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for three future second-round picks, per ESPN's Shams Charania.
The move ends a six-year tenure in Detroit for Stewart, who joined the team as a first-round pick in 2020 and carved out a role as a bruising rebounder. He got Sixth Man of the Year votes last season, while helping the Pistons to their first 60-win season since 2006.
Still only 25 years old, Stewart is under contract for two more seasons with a $15 million salary in both. The 2027-28 year is a team option.
He will join a Grizzlies team with plenty of big man minutes to go around following the trade of Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz. Memphis also added Duke star Cameron Boozer this week, selecting him with the third overall pick of the NBA Draft.
As for the Pistons, it’s a conspicuous move. Contending teams don’t trade away rotation players on manageable contracts for no reason, so this could very well be the tide receding for a bigger move.
