Rays' Craig Kimbrel allows 1-out, 9th-inning homer to spoil combined no-hitter against Royals

The Tampa Bay Rays came within two outs of recording a combined no-hitter against the Kansas City Royals. They would have to settle for a one-hit, 13-2 win instead.

Casey Legumina opened for the Rays and earned five outs before being relieved by Ian Seymour, who pitched 6 2/3 innings and recorded seven strikeouts. After Seymour took the no-hitter through the eighth inning, Craig Kimbrel came in and after getting the first out surrendered a two-run home run to Carter Jensen.

Kimbrel would recover and get Nick Loftin to fly out and Jac Caglianone to strike out to close out the four-game series against Kansas City with two wins.

Despite the lack of seeing history, Rays fans did have a memory to take away from the matinee. Junior Caminero launched three home runs and drove in six runs to bring his season total to 19. He would go deep in the first and fifth innings off Royals starter Seth Lugo before hitting his third of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning off infielder/outfielder Tyler Tolbert.

According to MLB.com's Sarah Langs and the Elias Sports Bureau, there has never been an individual three-home run performance and a no-hitter in the same game.

The combine no-hitter would have been the second of this season and second in the past month after Tatsuya Imai, Steven Okert and Alimber Santa of the Houston Astros teamed up for one during a 9-0 win over the Texas Rangers on May 25.
