Mateo Pulcini may have finished the first round of The Open Championship at five-over par, but the Argentinian had some fun as he ended his day on the 18th hole.

A day after Argentina stunned England 2-1 in the World Cup semifinals — a scoreline Pulcini had predicted — the 25-year-old Latin America Amateur champion celebrated his second birdie of the round by cupping his ears just like Enzo Fernández after his game-tying goal in the 85th minute.

Sporting shoes with the Argentina flag, Pulcini joked earlier this week that he thought about walking out to the first tee at England's Royal Birkdale draped with his country's flag. He said that his friends had texted him that he needed to do something if Lionel Messi and company knocked England out of the World Cup.

When he was announced before teeing off Thursday morning, Pulcini received some boos from those in the crowd still smarting from the World Cup result.

"I was expecting a few them," Pulcini said. "But I love it. I really don't mind. It's part of the fun."

As for his World Cup-inspired celebration, Pulcini said, "I wasn't going to put football with golf, but then I made a 40-footer so I got excited."
