Comments Off on The Open Championship Friday tee times: Can Bryson DeChambeau, Scottie Scheffler overtake Jackson Suber at Royal Birkdale?

Jackson Suber should get to Europe more often.

The 26-year-old, who had never been to the continent before this week, surged ahead of the field to take the early lead at the British Open on Thursday. He posted a 5-under 65 in what was easily the round of the day, thanks to a closing stretch in which he went 4-under in five holes.

That gave Suber, who has yet to win on the PGA Tour, a one-shot lead overnight at Royal Birkdale.

While he's in control early, there are a lot of people behind him. Sungjae Im and Daniel Brown will enter Friday just a shot back, and Bryson DeChambeau is leading the large group at 3-under. DeChambeau, who has yet to make a cut at a major this season, posted a 3-under 67 on Thursday. It was his only major round under par this year.

Suber will go off early at 2:30 a.m. ET on Friday. DeChambeau will be in the late wave alongside Scottie Scheffler, who is at 2-under after his opening round. Rory McIlroy, who posted a 2-over 72 on Thursday, will tee off just after 5 a.m. ET.
