The Open Championship: Who will miss the cut?
At The Open Championship, it's top 70 and ties that make it to the weekend. Per DataGolf.com, there is a better than 70% chance that the cut line will be +1, with Round 2 still in progress.
If that remains true, that's good news for Keegan Bradley, who finished Round 2 on the number, +1. Also if that remains true, it's bad news for Aaron Rai, the PGA Championship winner, who is in at +2.
Rory McIlroy was on the wrong side of the potential +1 cut line, and looked like he might struggle to make it to the weekend early in Round 2, but a more Rory-esque finish — three birdies on his final 12 holes — has him to -1, comfortably on the good side of the cut.
The same should be true of Bryson DeChambeau, he of the dubious (and widely publicized) distinction of having missed the cut at the three previous majors this season. DeChambeau, in the late wave of tee times, shot a 3-under 67 in Round 1. Unless he implodes (on a day that has already produced a pair of 62s) he will avoid golf's version of the golden sombrero.
Others who are either flirting with or not making it to the weekend:
Brooks Koepka (+1) F
Justin Thomas (+1) Round in progress
Wyndham Clark (+3) F
Jordan Spieth (+3) Round in progress
Matt Fitzpatrick (+4) F
Justin Rose (+5) Round in progress
Gary Woodland (+5) Round in progress
