Andrew McCutchen’s time with the Texas Rangers has come to an end after the team designated him for assignment on Wednesday.

The 39-year-old McCutchen signed with the Rangers in early March and ended up making the team out of spring training. However, he struggled through 37 games, and now the team has decided to move on.

In 37 games, McCutchen batted .192 with one home run, five RBI and 22 strikeouts in 73 at-bats. He played 23 games as the team's designated hitter and spent time in the outfield as well.

Moving on from McCutchen is a reflection of the Rangers' offense struggling through the first two months of the season. As of Wednesday, only the Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants and New York Mets have scored fewer runs than the Rangers (211), and only the San Diego Padres and Chicago White Sox have recorded fewer hits (413).

The Rangers sit third in the AL West with a 25-29 record, 1.5 games behind the division-leading Athletics.

It’s unclear if this is the end of McCutchen’s time in MLB. He has played 2,299 career games with 333 home runs and 1,157 RBI while playing for six franchises. He is a four-time Silver Slugger Award winner, 2012 Gold Glove winner and recipient of the 2015 Roberto Clemente Award.
