Comments Off on Browns reportedly trading Myles Garrett to Rams in blockbuster exchange including 2024 DROY Jared Verse

The Cleveland Browns have agreed to trade superstar defensive end Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams, per Ian Rapoport.

Garrett is heading to the Rams for a robust trade package. Details are still being finalized, but DE Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick and more are heading to Cleveland, per Adam Schefter.

Trade rumors began on Monday, and new head coach Todd Monken was asked by the media on Monday afternoon whether he felt Garrett would be with the team on June 9, when mandatory minicamp began. He gave a vague, indifferent answer.

“Well, he’s not like any other player. I’m never told who’s gonna be on the team, who’s not gonna be on the team. That’s a question.

Every day we evaluate the roster, Andrew [Berry] evaluates the roster, management evaluates the roster, like I said he is no different than any other player we’ve got, so it’s- I don’t know how to respond to that cause it’s really no different today than it’s been for the last however many months I’ve been the head coach.”

The deal was announced by reporters the morning of June 1, but it will likely not be finalized until after 4 p.m. ET, when Cleveland will be able to spread part of Garrett’s dead cap over two years.

Browns GM Andrew Berry was asked about the deal and said, “Nothing is final at this point. We are in discussions of a potential transaction including [Myles Garrett]. We are in negotiations. We're hopeful that we close something here in the next several hours...I'll have an update...maybe as soon as tomorrow."

The star defensive end is the all-time single-season sack leader. Garrett set the record with 23 sacks in 2025, surpassing Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt, who each had 22.5 sacks.

Garrett was drafted with the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Browns. He was named the Defensive Player of the Year in both 2023 and 2025.

The DE has played in 134 career games over his nine-year career and heads into 2026 with 125.5 career sacks, already good enough for 20th all-time since the stat was first recorded in 1982.

Verse has been in the league for two years and is 25-years-old. He was selected with the 19th overall pick by Los Angeles in the 2024 Draft and was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year that season.

In 2025, the defensive end had 7.5 sacks, a stark improvement on his 4.5 from his rookie campaign.

Cleveland moves a defensive superstar but brings in another foundational piece, along with draft capital, in this blockbuster deal.
