Fan hospitalized after falling into bullpen at Rate Field during White Sox's win over Royals

The Chicago White Sox’s 6-5 win over the Royals on Wednesday night was briefly delayed after a fan fell into the Kansas City bullpen in right field. 

The game at Rate Field in Chicago was suddenly stopped in the fourth inning without much of an explanation. Medical personnel went rushing out into the Royals’ bullpen after a fan fell. 

The fan was tended to in the bullpen and eventually taken out on a gurney, according to ESPN’s Bradford Doolittle. The White Sox confirmed that the fan was then taken to a local hospital for treatment. Further specifics on the fan’s condition, or what led to the incident, are not yet known.

The White Sox were up 3-0 at the time, before the Royals tied the game up in the inning after the brief pause in the contest. Jarred Kelenic hit a two-run double in the fifth and Colson Montgomery hit a solo home run in the seventh to put the White Sox back out in front. That was enough to lift them toward the one-run win.

That marked the fourth straight win for the White Sox, who now sit at 21-21 on the season. According to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, this is the first time the franchise has reached .500 this late in the season since the end of the 2022 campaign, when they finished 81-81. 

The two teams will wrap up the three-game series Thursday night.
