New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm was placed into concussion protocol after a scary collision with outfielder Jasson Domínguez during the team’s 7-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Monday.

Both Chisholm and Domínguez started chasing a fly ball hit by Tigers second baseman Hao-Yu Lee in the fourth inning at Yankee Stadium. Domínguez ended up making the grab, but he accidentally drilled Chisholm in the head with his arm as he ran by.

Chisholm immediately fell to the ground, reaching for his head, as Domínguez spun out of the play still on his feet. Chisholm remained down for quite some time before he was helped off the field.

Chisholm was taken out of the game and replaced by Oswaldo Cabrera. The team said he is in the concussion protocol. The severity of the injury and how long Chisholm might be sidelined are unknown.

The Tigers were up 7-0 at the time and cruised to victory from there. They put up four runs in the second inning to blow the game open, and Kevin McGonigle hit a two-RBI single just before Chisholm's injury.

Amed Rosario hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to put the Yankees on the board, but that was all they managed.

Chisholm, 28, entered Monday with a .223 batting average, 12 home runs and 33 RBI on the season. He struck out in his one at-bat in the loss Monday.

The Yankees have now lost five straight after they found themselves on the wrong side of a four-game sweep by the Boston Red Sox last weekend. Monday's loss pushed them to 48-36 on the season.

The Tigers have won just two of their past seven games and sit at 36-49. The two teams will run it back on Tuesday.
