Comments Off on Wimbledon match between Alexander Zverev and Jiri Lehecka suspended due to curfew, will resume Tuesday

Monday’s fourth-round match between No. 2 Alexander Zverev and No. 13 Jiri Lehecka has been suspended due to a light curfew.

The match will resume on Tuesday. Zverev won the first two sets 6-4, 7-5, and the third set is currently tied 3-3. It is expected to resume on centre court at 9:30 a.m. ET or 2:30 p.m. local time at Wimbledon.

Zverev’s match was being held on centre court, which has a strict cutoff time of 11 p.m. local time. Sunday night’s women’s match featuring Coco Gauff went right up to the curfew time, but she clinched the match-winning point mere minutes before the deadline.

Lehecka will have his work cut out for him being down two sets. The rest and break could be just what he needs to come back in the match, with the winner securing a place in the quarterfinals.

The other aspect of the match suspension is what it will do to the matches that are already scheduled for Tuesday. While Zverev’s match is in the fourth round, Tuesday marks the start of the men’s quarterfinals with two matches.

No. 1 Jannik Sinner will face Jan-Lennard Struff on Tuesday, ahead of the resumption of the Zverev match. No. 3 Felix Auger-Aliassime and No. 7 Novak Djokovic will face each other on centre court after the Zverev match ends.
