Brewers' David Hamilton leaves early due to hamstring injury after sparking comeback win vs. Cardinals
Milwaukee third baseman David Hamilton sparked the Brewers' comeback late on Monday in St. Louis.
He just didn't get to stick around to finish the game.
Hamilton, after hitting a two-RBI double to open the seventh inning and put the Brewers on the board at Busch Stadium, was pulled from the game after reaching second successfully. He pulled up a bit as he reached second and didn't push anything in the moment, as he had made it to second with plenty of time to spare after hitting a deep shot to the outfield wall to score Garrett Mitchell and Sal Frelick.
Hamilton was replaced by Joey Ortiz on the bag, and he left the game for good.
The Brewers later announced that Hamilton had tweaked his left hamstring while running the bases. Further specifics of the injury, or how long he might be sidelined, are not yet known.
Thankfully for the Brewers, Hamilton's knock gave them the boost they needed to pull off the comeback. Brice Turang hit a two-RBI single next to put Milwaukee in front for the first time all night and eventually secure the 4-3 win.
Hamilton entered the night with a .234 batting average and three home runs. He's now up to 15 RBI this season, his first with the Brewers after he got his start in the league with the Boston Red Sox. The 28-year-old was dealt to Milwaukee in a six-player deal in the offseason.
The Brewers' win pushed them to 55-33 on the season and further solidified their lead in the NL Central.
