Comments Off on Red Sox plane issues reportedly leave team stuck in Chicago hours before game in New York

Fresh off a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox, the Boston Red Sox are set to continue their winning ways against the New York Mets on Friday … if they can make it.

The Red Sox are reportedly still stuck in Chicago due to multiple plane issues, according to the Boston Globe. The plan is for Friday's game against the Mets to still occur, per the Globe. That game is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET, giving the Red Sox … not much time to take off, land, get to the park and start the contest.

The Red Sox were able to get off the ground in Chicago around 3:00 p.m. ET, per reports. The team is expected to land just before 5 p.m. ET, giving the team just over two hours to de-board the plane, leave the airport, get to Citi Field and be ready to play.

It's a bad time for the Red Sox to experience friction. The club is playing its best ball of the season. The team enters Friday on a six-game winning streak. It has won 11 of its last 13 games.

Incredibly, that streak started after the team experienced a different traveling issue, one that caused the team to get home around 5 a.m. ET on a game day. The Red Sox were able to shake off the cobwebs of their overnight flight to defeat the New York Yankees later that night. Boston then swept the Yankees in a four-game series before traveling to play the Washington Nationals. The Nationals took two out of three games from the Red Sox during that series, and are the only team to beat the Red Sox in the past two weeks.

Because of that, maybe it's a good thing the Red Sox will be running late for Friday's game. The team has proven it can bounce back from plane issues already this season, and it's not like the Mets have proved particularly challenging for any opponent this season.

Should the Red Sox get off to a sloppy start Friday, however, at least they'll have an excuse for being one of the few teams to take advantage of the Mets this year.
