FIFA is following an American tradition as it prepares for the 2026 World Cup final.

The winner of the final between Spain and Argentina on Sunday will receive the first ever championship rings granted by FIFA, the organization announced on Thursday. And because this is FIFA we’re talking about, more of the same rings will soon be available for purchase to the general public.

There will be 2,026 individually numbered rings made, 30 of which will be awarded to the winning team. The captain and head coach will each receive temporary rings after the final, with the final customized rings presented at a later date.

The remaining 1,996 rings will “ be made available to fans worldwide as an Official Licensed Product, allowing supporters to own a unique piece of FIFA World Cup 2026 history.”

The rings themselves feature a World Cup trophy on the side, with the logo of the winning team added to the other side. They are certainly gaudy, featuring dozens of diamonds and sapphires, but not when compared to the monstrosities given outin the major American sportsleagues these days.

These also aren’t the first World Cup rings, just the first ones officially made by FIFA. Following France’s win in 2018, stars Paul Pogba and Antoine Griezmann had diamond-covered rings made for themselves and their teammates.

They were reportedly inspired by the NBA.

It’s unclear if FIFA will keep doing World Cup rings going forward or this is a one-off for the tournament in America.
