Carlos Alcaraz announces withdrawal from Wimbledon due to wrist injury
Carlos Alcaraz announced that he will be withdrawing from Wimbledon this year due to a lingering wrist injury.
The No. 2 men’s tennis player in the world has already withdrawn from the 2026 French Open later this month because of the injury.
Alcaraz picked up the injury to his right wrist when he was playing in the Barcelona Open in April. After the injury, he withdrew from the Madrid Open, Italian Open and the French Open.
The tennis star is aware of where he is in his career and knows that there isn’t a rush to return to the court if it means risking further injury. He said before announcing his withdrawal from the Madrid Open, “I have a very long career ahead of me, with many years still to come. Forcing things at this Roland Garros could really harm me for future tournaments.”

This will be the first time that Alcaraz has missed Wimbledon since he turned pro in 2020. It wasn’t held that year because of COVID, but he made it to the second round in his first year of competition in 2021.
Alcaraz followed that up, making it to the fourth round in 2022 before winning his first Wimbledon championship in 2023. He wasted little time in winning his second Wimbledon in 2024 and very nearly three-peated in 2025. Alcaraz made it to the finals but fell to Jannik Sinner in four sets.
The 23-year-old’s 2026 tennis season started strong. He won the 2026 Australian Open, besting Novak Djokovic in four sets, but now will miss two tennis majors in the same year for just the second time in his career and the first since 2020.
As Alcaraz continues to progress in his recovery, attention now turns to whether he will be able to compete in the 2026 U.S. Open, which begins in late August.
